October 17, 2019 -  NACM is having me back at their annual Chicago Conference to present a mechanics lien seminar. They will have copies of my book The Illinois Mechanics Lien Statues... and Other Construction Stuff available for signing.
Sept 29, 19 - 10am-2pm, I'll be at the Oswego Literary Festival presented by Sourcebooks along with a bunch of other authors selling our books. This is one of the best Lit Fests I've been to as far as interested readers who ask very good questions from the authors, so I'm very happy to be back.
Aug-Nov 2019 -  I'm back as a judge for the Chicago International Film Festival. We'll be watching the films in August and the winner will be announced in November. (I'll do anything for free popcorn).
Also,  I'm been asked back as a panelist for this year's Windycon, but not sure if I'm going to do it. I've been taking a bit of a hiatus from Lit Fests while finishing up a couple new books. Plus our new dog is keeping me busy.
November 2018 Planning on hitting WindyCon, but not yet confirmed.  Oh wait, confirmed. Looks like I'll be doing a presentation for WindyKidz, also three or so panels.
Nov 1, 7:00 Opening Night of the 35th Chicago International Children's Film Festival. I'll be presenting the winners of the Animated Shorts Category (this means I get a free pass to the events)

Aug 4, 5, 11 & 12 I'll be back as a judge at the 34th Chicago International Children's Film Festival. This will be my 6th year at this Academy Award nominating festival (one of our nominations, Sing, won an Oscar in 2017 in the Best Live Action Short Film category.) This year I will be judging Animated Television. Usually I'm in Live Action Feature Length Films. 
Week of June 18 Once again, I'll be talking to critters about how to write at the Summer at ECC (The Kids College at Elgin Community College). They keep asking me to come back, so I must not be screwing it up too bad. 
May 1, I'm the featured author for the Joliet Herald News inaugural LocalLit Author Spotlight. They also spot-lighted my short story, Were, about a tick spreading the were virus to different creatures.  Check it out.
April 25,18,  I'll be speaking as one of the featured authors (with Adam Selzer and Siobhan Vivian) at LincolnWay West High School's author festival.  The Joliet Herald News published this story on the event. 
One of my articles made the Oct/Nov issue of Business Credit, a national publication by NACM.

August 5-13 My fifth year as a judge with the Chicago International Children's Film Festival, a nominating festival for the Oscars.

November 11-13, WindyCon43: The King of the Nerds, Westin Lombard Yorktown Center, Il. I'm on a few panels, and will have a book signing too. 
November 6 I'll be appearing at the closing ceremony of the Chicago International Children's Film Festival.

April 3 Getting interviewed by Cassie Fenwick for WONC FM 89.1. Not sure if it will be played live or not, but if so, it's at 3:00. If you're in Chicago, you can probably get it. It will probably spotlight Fang Face, but I'm sure we'll talk about my other books. 
March 31-April 2, 2016 - I'll be hanging out with other humor writers at the 2016 Erma Bombeck Writer's Workshop. Expect pranks and other hi-jinks. Hope the pool is nice.  Update, the pool sucked, but I wasn't there to swim. October 19 & 20  I'll be doing a mechanics lien presentation at NACM's annual conference in Rolling Meadows Il. I think my talk will be on the 20th.(update: I guess I'll be on a panel too). Update to the update: my presentation will be at 10:15 on Thursday the 20th and my title is "Getting to Know the Illinois Mechanics Lien Act - on a first name basis - really, it's like you'll be friends"). No update on the time for the panel yet. My new book will also be released.
Oct 1,9am-1pm, 5th Annual Oswego Literary Festival, 32 W. Jefferson, Oswego. This is a gorgeous library, so come on over and check it out.
Sept 11, 30th Annual Children's Book Fair, Nichols Park, Hyde Park 1355 E. 53rd St. Chicago. I'll be manning the SCBWI booth for an hour from 3-4 PM and will have my YA books for sale.
August 6, 7, 13, 14 - With my fellow judges, I will be munching popcorn while viewing the entrants for the 33rd Chicago International Children's Film Festival. 
June 13-16, 2016 I'll be the featured author for Summer at ECC (the Kids College Writing Academy at Elgin Community College).  Four days of presentations about writing stuff that keeps the reader interest.
April 24 8:00 My radio interview from Ap 3 will air on WONC FM 89.1!  If you are in the Chicago area, you'll probably be able to pick it up if you tune in. 
February 27th, 2016 - I've been invited back to speak on "My Life in the Literary Arts," followed by being a panelist for publishing options at the 16th Annual SEA Conference at the Hilton Hotel in Lisle.

August 2015 - Yeah!  I'm back for the third time as a judge for the Chicago International Children's Film Festival!  I really enjoy doing this, though I admit it's a bit of a chore to sit back with popcorn and watch a bunch of movies.  Stressing you know.
Aug 7,15 - Here's something a little different. I wrote an article for regarding the most recent change to the Illinois Mechanics lien law. Of course, writing articles isn't new for me, since I do write a  regular column for the National Association of Credit Management. Just thought I'd document it here. 
July 15, 2015- I'm going back to Elgin Community College for The Kids' College Writing Academy to do a presentation and workshop. Long day, going to be a 4 1/2 hour session. Worth every minute. The kids are great.

August 2014 - I was invited back to judge again for the Chicago International Children's Film Festival, the largest children's film festival in the world. Basically this means I'll be watching movies all month and eating popcorn. Also got to see the premiere of The Boxtrolls and meet one of their producers.

Sept 28, 13 Glen Ellyn Book Fest,. This event takes place all over Glen Ellyn, and is put on by the Glen Ellyn Public Library in cooperation with various Glen Ellyn businesses. It's still being set up, so I'lll add more info later.

July 12, 2013  Elgin Community College for Kids' College Writing Academy I've been invited back for Elgin CC's third writing academy for kids. I will do a presentation and workshop for literary critters.
June 8-June 9 Chicago Tribune Printer's Row Literary Festival   I'll be in the Echelon Press tent all day both days in Chicago's premier literary festival. I'm gonna skip the flip flops this year (they hurt the feet), but an umbrella is mandatory (though I hear Saturday should be sunny). Also, I gave up caffeine, so this will be my first non-caffeinated Printer's Row. Should be interestingzzzzzzzzz.......
April  17, 2013  SPC Literary Festival. I'll be a judge and present two workshops at this multi-high school writing event. This year is is taking place at Minooka High School, Il. 
April 13, Saturday - Fountaindale Library Illinois Author Fair.  30 or so authors will be selling and signing books at 300 W. Briarcliff Rd in Bolingbrook partnered with Barnes and Noble. Event goes from 11am - 4pm. 
Feb 22,2013 Panelist, SEA Conference (Self-Employment in the Arts),  , The Hilton, Lisle Il. 3:45-4:45. I will be a panelist with authors Ted Goeglein, Jennifer Allison and Professor John Madormo who will also be moderating. 
Sometime soon. going to go back and talk to the students at Orville Bright Elementary School. They all have copies of Werewoof, and I'll do a sitdown with them and discuss writing and stuff.
Feb 16 will be a featured Regional Author at Anderson's Bookshops 11th Annual Childrens Literature Breakfast at Abbington Distinctive Banquets in Glen Ellyn Il for teachers, librarians, etc.

These are lots of fun, and I'm honored they are having me back again for the fifth time (I was keynote speaker a couple years ago).

September 25, 2010, KidLit 2010, I will be appearing at this new children's literature festival in Princeton, Il. They will close down more than three city blocks with food, authors (no, you can't eat the authors), storytelling and workshops celebrating children's literature.

Sept 4, 2 pm - Centuries and Sleuths Bookstore 20th Year Celebration (they are planning events all month - I will be appearing on a panel with Lee Williams (In His Blood), Ursula Bielski (Chicago Haunts), PJ Parish (Little Death) and Judity Markowitz (The Gay Detective Novel).  I think we'll have some VERY interesting discussion!  Centuries and Sleuths Bookstore is at 7419 W. Madison St in Forest Park, Il.  Admission is $2 per day/person, refundable with $20 net purchase the day of attendance.  Seating is limited to 25 per panel, so make a reservation.

Saturday, September 12, 2009 -  I will be in the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators booth from either 10-11 or 11-12  at National Lewis University's Showcase of Authors.  This is an interactive event with librarians, authors and illustrators.  
August 22  & 23.  A bunch of authors will converge on Galena, Illinois for joint signings, general hilarity and all kinds of book fun.  I know we'rll be at Fried Green Tomatoes Restaurant at 213 N. Main St., Galena from noon til 3:00 on Saturday.  Then on Sunday we'll be at Brio Art Gallery at 116 S. Main St. from 11:00-2:00.  There will be refreshments and a cash bar!   Fun, fun, fun!     (featured authors at this time: Amy Allessio, JA Konrath, Henry Perez, Margot Justes, Mary Welk, Luisa Buehler, Susan Miura, Martel Sartina, Barbra Annino ... and me!)

April 16, 2009 (sorry, I don't have a 2009 calendar yet, so I have no idea what day of the week this is. Thursday?) Anyway, Suburban Prairie Conference Literary Festival, Morris Community High School, Morris, Il.  I'll be  the Keynote Speaker, a judge and will hold two humor panels at this high school regional writing conference.
April 16 This is going to be a busy day and night.  After spending all day in Morris (see above), I will have to scoot to the Schaumburg District Library at 130 S. Roselle Rd for the launch party for Missing.  There will be all kinds of fun, including a crime scene program with David Case and Michael Black, two cops moonlighting as authors.  The program starts at 7:00 pm.  Register by calling (847) 923-3347.

October 4, 2008, Regional Author Fair  The fifth annual author fair sponsored by Joliet, Plainfield and Shorewood Public Libraries.  It will be on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 11:00 to 3:00 at Joliet Public Library's Black Road Branch at 3395 Black Road, Joliet.  There will be forty or so of your favorite authors, so make sure you come!
